i learn to do that from listening LP, really. about the drwg technique, i learn it myself. i mean, i had no art-school background or sumthin'.

well, i've been drawing for...umm, seems like my whole lifetime so far. the process been taking since i was just a lil kid, but the serious era started about 9 yrs ago when i was in the last year of high school. school & college were quiet depressing that i used to 'run' to drawing so i could feel more...depressed, lol... yeah, how couldn't with the shading like that? heehee...

and, speaking of colored pencil, the latest work i done with it was a b'day card for my best friend. there, i used...pink! i feel sorry to this pencil cos it's never used n it seem so miserable in the box :rolleyes: but actually, i wanted to break the stereotype of this color. so i brought it into a dark side of me related with her...

i use 'em both, but i prefer the 2nd way. scaling is too 'technical' n i don't like it, but sometimes i need it to get the right proportion n for practising. howeva, i got more satisfied when i draw something original right from the head which i've never seen in any pics though.

aw.i know how you feel..i don`t have my "soul" for a long time.
sometimes it comes in the most unconfortable moments-for example when i`m in class or when i`m in the shower and when i`m in my room..it`s gone...may be you just need some new experience with somethin,somethi that will make you think and the inspiration will come again...that`s all i can tell you as an advice

I wanted to answer your question as well. If I understand it correctly you don't know the difference between anime and manga. Well if that's the case the answer is pretty simple. I also was confused at first! Well manga means comics strip. That one you read. Anime is the animated version of the manga. The one you see on tv or else where. That's the difference.

I like to draw manga characters and real people too. I can't say that I'm as good as you are but I'm not that bad either! I need to draw more often though if I want to get better.

Keep up the good work and yes canson is really good paper to draw onto. Only a bit expensive if you draw too much :p !

this is my latest drawing of joe i've been working on for about days...or weeks? just felt have been way too long. it's not done yet. esp. on the t-shirt shading. but it's almost done for the face. still i need a lil shading on his jaw & neck though, and then hair too. not to forget, the background.
see, i shade a lot of... what is it, layers? first, i use 2B, then 4B, back to 2B to smoothen it, and again 4B to strengthen the line or some dark parts if necessary.
oh yeah, for drawing like this, the 'secret' is...sharpen the mechanical pencil tip! it looks ridiculous if you see me sharpen it with a cutter knife, making it as small as a needle but, seriously, no kidding!
gotta be very careful shading that way, if not u're just gonna break it again & again, lol... very difficult to do, but it worths the result. it's good to draw the details, e.g. the eyeball, the hair, eyebrow, eyelish, mustache, beard, lips, etc. even for shading the skin.

on this drwg of joe, i use canson paper, 2B, 4B 0.5mm mechanical pencil as usual. the actual size is 11.5x8.6 cm.

My only problem (when I draw ppl) is:

To see your drawings it makes me want to get as good as you. I feel driven to achieve that level of drawing. I never had that before. I read how you do your drawings and Joe looks really good now already. My compliments for that. You make it sounds so easy and reachable.

I had a question in mind. You said it takes you days or even weeks to finish a drawing. How many hours do you actually spent on the drawings? A rough number would be fine. I also spend days on them too and it's about 2 to 4 hrs a day. I actually don't see the time passing by :p .

Some people can be really hard sometimes but don't take criticisim the wrong way. People's criticks are here to make you improve your work. Giving criticisim isn't an easy thing to do, you must know the right way to say it and mostly people don't know that so they just say it straight away. I'm always thinking about how can I say it the nicest way possible that the person won't take it the wrong way and be mad or feel sad. What you always must do is always give positive criticisim first and then give the negative ones. It always comes less hard on you. And it must be constructive too.

i did had some peeps said bad things about my drawings. you just missed it, lol.. anyways, i don't think it's a good luck not having some critics on my works. actually i've made some progress because of it. and i used to critize my own works before anybody else did.

make constructive critics isn't an easy thing to do. i have this trouble myself. sometimes i want to make some of it when i see somebody else's drawings, but i used to lost the words... :confused: well, maybe it's because i prefer to see that people works with their own style, without me have to interfere it.

i use Faber-Castell 48 classic colour pencils & as i wrote on the shading subject, i use mechanical pencil, 0.5mm, 2B & 4B. the paper...just paper, for printing, photo copy, etc. [i use the 80gr/m2]. but since april '05 i use drawing paper [canson, 160 gr]. it's not too smooth, but the texture is perfect for shading the man's skin. but the smoothest i've ever tried was my best friend's drwg paper [winsor & newt]

well, my focus was on expressing my feelings n' tryin' to connect with Chaz. proportion was just to recognize, as long as i could say it's him, that's enough for me. anyway, i luv the freedom in my painting where i could make mistakes without feeling guilty. i didn't even sketch it with pencil first.

hi, i got a lil tips. when u draw, put a sheet of paper [clean one, of course] on the paper u working on. so your hand don't touch the paper surface of the drawing. n when u erase, do it carefully. to clean it after erasing, don't use ur hand/finger to sweep the dirt, just blow it. 'k? ;]

been drawing it, got challenged with the colors i use. made so many mistakes, got me stuck a lil bit. lost the 10% luck, but some 20% skill will save me, or mess me up more.

i'm not good either, but i could say is that the double Brad is like me staring at myself, all of the things i've done in the past few weeks. the red spot, could've been just another blood of me when i draw...

btw, it's a drawing i missed to post. done it by the end of August. a very different one cos i didn't do any erasing at all in this drawing. not easy to do. made a lot of proportion mistakes.
